The display is dim on that screen as well. I've tested the power supply, that came back ok. I tried a separate monitor, same issue.
Tried another video card, display was black. I've tried booking into safe mode and it stops at the MUP. SYS driver. I've tried "Last known good config" and that stops at the splash screen. Repair says I need a password, which none of my admin passwords are working.
I can't get in through the backdoor using a Linux password disk either. I'd say reformat that puppy with an OS that is still supported. If you need any files from it, slave it as a secondary drive and then copy anything you need. There is a good chance that the Caps on the board are not flat on the top like they are suppose to be.
Try to download a Live CD and give it a whirl and let us know if the color is still the same, or even upload a picture of the MB with the caps around the CPU as they are the ones that blew out the most. Our company used a lot of the GX's when they came out, and the capacitor problem became a serious issue Seems I was replacing MB's daily on those. This will isolate any calls to a non-existent server, like for a mapped drive, GPOs, or something. Autoruns to disable all startup items. Disk defrag and Scandisk for bad disk errors. In reply to jonathon t's post on January 22, I would back up any data from outside of Windows if necessary and do a clean install with your XP Home disc then, using its Product Key.
You'll have to get drivers for the Asus' hardware, of course. I would take the time to test the hardware, at least the RAM and hard drive, before doing the clean install. Here's my deal.. Im' happy.. Saw that my Avira Ant-vir anti-virus pgrm was stating that it was out of date.. I"m like WTF?? Hard boot.. Windows needs activation.. I was like.. I call the get a live person on the other end..

Watch our Welcome Guide to learn how to use this site. Joined Nov 1, Messages Well, I am trying to install xp on this good friend of mine's machine that took a dive last week. We replaced the motherboard, cpu, and memory. And afterwords for about 3 days, it seemed to function ok. Then it just quit booting. I told him we would need to reinstall windows. I was kind of shocked we did not have to in the first place. Anyways, So now I am trying to reinstall windows: I can get it to boot from the windows cd, it goes through the standard list of drivers, and at the end says, "setup is starting windows" Then it just hangs there indefinately.
Typically after this, you get to the screen that asks you if you want to install windows, then you hit f8 to agree to there stuff, then you get to partition ect. I mention these things so you will know what part I am talking about. I have tried a diferent disk, I have tried a windows home disk instead of pro, I have taken the drive out and tried a diferent drive, all with the same results Any advice on what I can do from here, would be greatly appreciated.
